My daughter, Mackenzie, on her 10th birthday.

A lot has happened in 10 years:

  • YouTube was founded,
  • Facebook added a billion or so users,
  • we learned to tap our phones rather than flip them,
  • the Texas Rangers finally made it to the World Series,

… and my little girl turned 10 years old!

I gaze upon her in awe: Where did the time go? How did we get here? Who taught her all these big, “grown up” words? As the years drew on, her princess costumes were traded for a Karate Gi and Black Belt, and I know that I won’t have to worry about my not-so-little Girl as she begins to venture out into the world (but of course, I still will).

The memories of her early years are as fleeting in my mind as I’m sure they are in hers. Yet, when I stop and gaze upon all the portraits and pictures that I’ve created of my daughter over the last decade, clarity sets in. I am filled with joy as the memories surrounding each portrait come flooding back.

These portraits remind me not only of the moment, but of that season in our family’s history, not only of the actions of the day, but of the feelings and the emotions that we all experienced at that time. The portraits of my children become more valuable as time goes on, not less.

Today, Reflections lives on a primary wall in our home. One day, it and others with just as much meaning and significance to our family will adorn the walls of my daughter’s home.

For now, I am merely the caretaker.

Let me create a beautiful family portrait that means as much to you as this piece means to me. Schedule a consultation today.
